The story, purpose and principles that have shaped Kwekwe Polytechnic since 1981.
Kwekwe Polytechnic is a leading and fast-growing degree-granting institution. The college was built and initially equipped by Union Carbide (Pvt) Ltd — now ZIMASCO — to develop manpower in what was then Rhodesia. As a gesture of goodwill and a mark of confidence in an independent Zimbabwe, Union Carbide donated the fully equipped college to the Government and people of Zimbabwe in 1981. The first intake of students followed in January 1981 in Automotive, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. The Commerce Division was established in 1984 to train students in business and secretarial courses, the Adult and Continuing Education Division in 2001, and the NASS Division in 2003. In that same year, Kwekwe Polytechnic was granted the mandate to offer degrees in Engineering — introducing the Bachelor of Technology (Honours) in Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering in 2005, followed by the Bachelor of Technology (Honours) in Electrical Power Engineering in 2011.
